Some of you may be wondering what is the big fuss I'm making when you all played "friendly" floorball with the other college teams. Some of you said that its for fun and entertainment, as long as the rest enjoyed the game or two, its good enough. Some felt that you lost a few games simply because you are out-numbered. Some told me to take it easy and relax.

Was I over-reacting?

Let me tell you some stories now. We are lucky to get a sum of money (some think its small) from the school. Did we "earn" this sum of money? I guess we did cause the boys got 3rd last year. Is there a "price" to pay for getting the money? Are there higher expectations now that you are allocated some priority among other CCAs? The answers to all these are yes, yes and yes. No meal in this world is free or even cheap. You may get the money this year but if you don't show that you deserve it, you will not get the money anymore next year. You guys and girls have more accountability now. You need to justify why the school is giving you money and not other CCAs.

How do we justify then?
One way is to win something. I agree, winning is not everything. So how else do we justify if we don't win something? Show the school that you people are a commited and deserving bunch through you mannerism, display, behaviour and also performance in school, not only on the floorball court.

Honestly, what I see now is a huge mess.
I see most of you are putting your own interests in front of the team. There is so much individualism in the squad now. People come and go as and when they like. People not turning up when they are supposed to. People are falling sick, getting injured. People's priorities lie outside of floorball. Its like a 2nd or even 3rd CCA for some. Its lower in the pecking order when you rank fun, friends and others in your life.

Am I exaggerating?
Nope. Just ask yourself how many times did you missed training sessions for some reason or anther? Ask yourself how many times you report that you are sick or injured and can't run or train but I will see you playing "friendly" floorball. These are totally rubbish (Im speaking from a point of view of an athlete). Your discipline is not there at all. You choose and decide what you want to do. Most of you just want to play and not train. If you want prove, check the attendance list. You will notice some trends.

Are most of you match-fit or generally fit?
Ask yourself again, can you run your 2.4 in under 10min or 9min even, for the girls 12.30 or 12min? Are you confident you will finish among the top 50 during the college's X-country? Can you last a full game of 3 periods of 15mins at high intensity? Can you suicide non-stop for 1min and repeat that effort over 20-30times with some rest in between? If your answer is yes to all or most of the above questions? Come and see me, convince me that you deserve the blue slip.

Let me remind you that the blue slip is a privilege and not an entitlement. You have to earn it. I dont care which other CCAs or sports have gotten theirs already. As far as I'm concerned, I think the majority of you are way off the standards required to win or finish top 4. Face the challenge, not beat around it like asking miss tan for the slips. Earn it!!

Passion for the game is very good but the commitment and appropriate attitude to the sport and training is atrocious. Take pride in your own game. I don't see or hear the staff team wanted to challenge the soccer boys at soccer. I don't see or hear other CCAs wanted to challenge the soccer or hockey boys at their game, X-country runners over 4.8km or the trackers over 4x100m. I guess we all know the reason why. But we do have teams wanting to challenge us at floorball. My guess is this, they have the best realistic chance in beating a college team. Feel for your team, you are supposed to be the best around. We have a role to play, we are representing VJ Floorball... protect our team's interest.
