Hi fellow Victorians, firstly, we have to give congratulations where it's due to the guys and girls for making it into the semi finals of the National 'A' Division Floorball Championship 2013. The guys are up against ACJC and the girls will play MJC. Here are the details:
Tuesday (28/5) (Girls) Victoria JC vs Meridian JC 1.00pm
Tuesday (28/5) (Guys) Victoria JC vs Anglo-Chinese JC 2:15pm

Venue: 2nd Floor Competition Hall at Republic Polytechnic
Finals and 3rd/4th placing matches will be held on Thursday 30th May and this blog will be updated accordingly after the semi finals have concluded.

In an open post to the VJFB '13 batch, I would like to congratulate you guys and girls once again for a job well done in the group stage but the real fight has just begun. For the girls, I know that some of you are disappointed with the YJ draw, but I want you girls, especially the less experienced ones, to remember how this feels and use this as a stepping stone to success. History has demonstrated that the most notable winners usually encountered heartbreaking obstacles before they triumphed. They won because they refused to become discouraged by their defeats - B. C. Forbes
3 years ago, your seniors faced a similar situation when they drew against RI
Here's what the girls' captain of VJFB '10, Melsa, posted on this blog (all credit goes to her) - Girls, do not be discouraged because of the match played against RIJC. It should not bring us down but it should make us want to play better and to fight harder. Do not hang your heads down whenever a goal is scored against us, but lift them up high because we know that we are going to come back faster and stronger and get back those goals. We have learnt a very important lesson through the RIJC match, that its not over till the final whistle. So do not give up even though there are only a few seconds left on the clock. Lets go all out, and get the championship title that we deserve!
I think that you girls can really relate to this message and guess what? They emerged champions that year, beating (yes, you guessed it) RI in the finals
Ok, so MJ may be strong but so what? Your biggest opponent isn’t the other guy. It’s human nature – Bobby Knight
If you girls play your best and have the confidence in your abilities, I'm sure you girls will beat MJ. Remember, you all are the DEFENDING CHAMPIONS, so go out there and defend that title with honor (:

For the guys, this must be the most technically proficient team VJ has ever produced. The last time the guys claimed the title was way back in 2009 and I guess it's high time we wrestle the title back from MJ and bring it back to where it belongs. Of course, you guys have to take it one game at a time and concentrate on beating ACJC first before claiming a spot in the final that you all so richly deserve
I just need you all to fully comprehend how much losing really sucks. You guys have a few experienced players who know how it feels like to lose a final and if you ask them, to say that it's heart-braking is a severe understatement. I also understand that the current team has a fair number of players that was part of the team that lost the semis last year right? For the J2s, this is the last time you guys have at the opportunity to be national champions before being sidelined for 2 years through NS
In other words, if you guys ever find yourselves trailing, never give up until the final whistle because you do not want to be on the wrong side of the scoreline. Adversity cause some men to break; others to break records - William A. Ward
Either break the opponents, or get broken
I'm sure that you guys are properly motivated to be champions but remember that there is only ONE chance to make it right so you guys better play like the Victorians you all are
If you all do play MJ in the final, don't be daunted by their winning streak in recent years, just ask yourself this - How much do you want this? Coz in the end, the team that's hungrier will go all the way and lift that trophy. Gold medals aren’t really made of gold. They’re made of sweat, determination, and a hard-to-find alloy called guts – Dan Gable

Here's a scene from the movie Miracle, a movie inspired by the true events of the 1980 Winter Olympics Ice Hockey final, where the USA team created one of the biggest upsets in sporting history by toppling the heavily fancied Soviet team, who had won every single gold medal since 1964.

The true measure of a man is not how he behaves in moments of comfort and convenience but how he stands at times of controversy and challenges - Martin Luther King Jr.
