Okay guys, I'm gonna say some words now. I prefer to say these stuff in front of you all as a group but I'll make an exception this time. Personally, I feel that this year's guys' team has a hell lot of potential. From the twins to the ever-improving Jia Yung, you guys have grown exponentially character-wise and skills-wise over the past year and we have molded into one strong and cohesive unit. And I believe that with the team that we have, we don't have to fear anyone, because fear breeds doubt in one's abilities, doubts lead to mistakes and mistakes cost games. We may have finished 4th best last year, but we're gonna gun for the title this year. Take a leaf out of the movie 'Miracle' that we watched during the March holidays. The USA team aren't technically superior to the Soviets but teamwork and cohesiveness prevailed in the end. Coach Herb said something along the lines of 'I don't need the best players to beat the Soviets, I just need the
RIGHT ones' And Yan has chosen all of us because he believes that we are the right players to bring back the title to where it belongs. So trust in Yan, he has a reason behind every decision that he makes so we have to respect that as at the end of the day, it's for the benefit of the team.
Winners are those who dare to dream I know that I'm not the best captain in the world, guys, but over the past year, I appreciate the respect that you guys have given me. I know I'm not as inspirational as other captains, but my desire to lead the team to success is no less than theirs. I myself have grown a lot over the past year in this new role, having been a squad player for the previous 5 years. I must say that I'm proud to be able to lead you guys out and there's no team I'd rather lead than VJC. Now the time has come for us to show everyone what we've been training for. I might be wearing the armband out there, but ALL of us will be donning the word 'VJC' at the back of our jerseys so we jolly well fight like Victorians
A quitter never wins and a winner never quits - Napoleon HillThat's right guys, we won't quit because Victorians just
don't know when to quit. When we concede, I don't ever want to see any of you guys face the floor. When you concede, keep your chin up, pick the ball out of the goal post, put it on the centre line and get that goal back. Because if we lose confidence in ourselves, another goal will come in.. and another.. and another. Now this is something we don't want right? Even if we are 5 goals down, NEVER LOSE HOPE BECAUSE IT'S NOT OVER TILL THE FINAL WHISTLE. We keep fighting on because we believe we can come back from that deficit. We must show our opponents how stubborn we are and that we just don't know when to give up. Case in point, this was what a 15-year-old Afi blogged 3 years ago (Yes, I used to have a personal blog):
Miracles do not happen often
But today, it happened
A Miracle
Which was totally unexpected
It was in our last floorball league match of the season
Against TP Wolves
If you were 1-5 down with 8 minutes to go,
You would naturally feel
Disheartened,
Disappointed,
Totally given up
But then,
We scored a goal
And another one,
And another one,
3 goals in the space of 7 minutes
It was 4-5
When we had made it 3-5,
I asked myself whether the unthinkable, a miracle, will happen
4-5 down with 1 minute to go
Then,
When the clock read:
59 min 20s
We scored a goal
Celebrated by swarming the court
59 min 58s
Melvin scored the winning goal
Sparking scenes of jubilation
From the Victoria Skools Floorball bench
It was totally unexpected
2 goals in the final 40s
To turn a loss into a win
2s before the final whistle,
Came the winning goal
Unbelievable
Truthfully,
The thought of a loss never crossed our mind
We focused on getting a goal
One by one
And the effort we put in
Was tremendous
Spectators who watched were bewildered
It was comeback floorball at it's very best
But I come to wonder,
Was it really a miracle?
It was us who played the match,
It was us who put in the effort,
It was us who who never gave up,
It was us who displayed grit and determination,
Which led me to think,
This was not a miracle
This is the most powerful display of Victorian Spirit I have ever seen
There might be times in A Div when we find ourselves in this situation and if we do, I want every one of us to remember this post. The ball is round, and anything can happen. But the best thing is if we don't find ourselves in that position in the first place right? And to do that, we have to be FEARLESS, we have to be CLINICAL, because we aren't 4th place material, we're CHAMPION material.
If anyone of you saw the CCA guidebook this year, under the floorball page lies the quote -
Champions aren't made from training, they're made from the passion and desire to train This just shows how much desire and passion is important. I know I've asked you guys this many times, but I'm gonna ask it again and again as long as it's necessary - How much do you want this?
I want it really really badly this year and I'm sure you guys want it too. Now it's the last lap of our journey as a team but it's the lap that really counts. So make it count, guys. For the girls, let's go for double champs and re-write history to be the first VJFB team to do so. Let's re-live the moments in the picture below, but with gold medals around all our necks(:

Who are we?
Champions
