hey girls
i'm not good with speeches, and everytime i try to bring something across, i dunno whether it does get across or not...so let's try this. (haha)
today is friday. Tomorrow is Saturday. (Yesterday is thurday) Its our last training before the A divs. What are you girls feeling? Are you scared? Are you excited? Do you look forward to it? To me, its a challenge. A challenge to perform well, to have fun, to go through all this with you girls. Floorball is fun. We are fun.
What do you girls think when you step on court? Are you scared you'll do badly, and disappoint your team, disappoint Yan? Or do you take it as a challenge and fight all your best? do you girls look forward to the matches? From experience, i do look forward to playing, because i know i will do well. The stronger the opponent team is, the greater the challenge is for me. Recently, against a certain strong team, i find myself enjoying the game. Yes, they are good. They are shooting against me like free, and i let in quite a few. But what is most important is that i know i performed well, and i find myself enjoying every shot that they take on me. Before i step on court, i tell myself that i will perform well. And who cares if the opponent is a national team player? i know i can stop her shot. And when i do, it's exhilerating. It's possible to lose a match and yet go home with a sense of satisfaction because you know you've done well. Likewise, it's possible to win a match and go home feeling sucky because what you showed on court wasnt your best. So what i'm saying here is that first, have confidence in yoursef. Know that you can do it, because you have done so before. Know that you can shoot/defend well, because you have shot/defended well before. Once you start playing well, you'll naturally have more confidence and play even better.
And the only pressure you have on you is the pressure you put on yourself. Trust me on that. When there is no pressure you'll find yourself enjoying the game, and you will perform better. And when you perform well, people praise you. And its like the multiplier effect. You feel good about yourself and you play better and you feel better about yourself and you play even better and so on.
Let's say you let in a goal. What are you going to do? Let in some more? I need you girls to have a strong mentality. Let in 1, get it back. Let in 2, get it back. The game is never over until the final whistle blows. Miss a shot? try again. If you take 10 shots on target i dont believe that not a single one will get in. If you let in a goal, make sure you don't make the same mistakes you've made. Then move on. What's over cannot be rewinded. What's more important is how we are gonna put more goals in THEIR goalpost. Treat every opponent as RIJC. We want to win them. We want to win every time we step on court. Don't underestimate anyone, because you're only going to kill yourself like that. Treat them as the best, and so put in your best because anything less than your best will not be enough.
We've come a long way. It's not easy. Even for me. I know im not a player, i may not know how it feels like to play. But im your keeper. I can see how you play. I know what shots you're good at, where you're weak at. We can tell you, but you have to work on it. If you dont help yourself, who will? I know i've been soft, but do you girls really need a harsh captain to do well? Show me that i dont have to go there.
Tomorrow is our last training. There's a time to be serious, there's a time to have fun. You girls are really fun to hang out with, but on court, take it seriously. Take this whole A Divs seriously. Stop all the useless screaming because when we go in, we mean business. We're not going in for leisure. Be focused. Or else, what are you playing for if you're not going to take this seriously? Once you get in, switch to serious mode okay. If you are going to fool around on court. take it easy and not give your best, sure. You'll stay on the bench. And im sure thats not where you want to be.
Lastly, I wanna thank you girls. We are vjfb'11. We are a team. We will overcome all obstacles together. Go listen to footprints in the sand. "And just when i, i thought i lost my way, you gave me strength to carry on" I think this song is really meaningful, and i hope you girls will feel this way towards everyone in the team. Always be there for each other. And know that your team mate will always be there for you. I promise you, i'm always there. I'll always be behind you. (have to right. goalpost at the back.)
All the way girls. Let's do this together.
